Hanshi Richard Fike

Biography

Hanshi Fike is the Soke (founder) of Sanchi-Ryu Karate holding senior black belt ranks in Karate, Judo and Jujitsu along with his extensive training/rank in Northern Praying Mantis Kung-Fu, Hapkido, Wrestling and Boxing. He began his training in martial arts in 1967 under local Black Belt Richard Jackson in the art of Minna Jitsu, and has continued his training with and received rank from many notable Martial arts legends including, Grandmaster Robert Trias (founder of the United States Karate Association) who is considered the Father of American Karate, Hanshi George Anderson head of the Kwan Mu Kan, and Professor Wally Jay - Bruce Lee's Judo and Jujitsu teacher.

Our dojo is directly linked to the FIRST Karate School in America established in1946 by Grandmaster Trias. Hanshi was the first North East, Ohio martial artist to be featured on the cover of Black Belt's Magazine's - "Karate/Kung Fu Illustrated" (KKFI) in where he authored a regular column for (KKFI) called "The Concrete Jungle". For over 40 years Hanshi has taught national/regional seminars across the U.S. along-side of his friends and fellow martial artists Bill "Super Foot" Wallace, Joe Lewis, Michael Depasquale Sr. and Jr., Danny Lane, Wally Jay, Simon Rhee, Don Frye, and Dan Severn.

History

Hanshi entered active duty with the U.S. Army in July 1973. During this time he was assigned to various U.S. Army special operations/special mission units. When not operating with his team, he was tasked to develop and teach advanced unconventional close quarter fighting skills to special mission teams that is still being taught today. Following discharge from active service, he continued his work with the government as a Special Agent for the U.S Department of Defense, until being recruited back into military service as a Reserve Officer for another 16 years, eventually retiring in 2001.

Upon returning home from active duty in 1980, he began teaching martial arts out of his garage and in local business establishments before opening his dojo at his current location on Main Street in Madison Village in 1987. He is also the originator of a Combat Jujitsu system (U.S. Military) known as "Mizu-Te Jujitsu", and also developed an American form of Tai Chi known as "Yi Gin Ching".

He is honored to have been inducted into the original Black Belt Karate/Kickboxing Hall of Fame (along-side legendary martial artists Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris and Cynthia Rothrock) in 1987, the East Coast Karate Hall of Fame, the United States Karate Hall of Fame, the United States Ju-jitsu Hall of Fame and the Cleveland Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
